Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
Steve Jobs
A great quote by Steve Jobs.
We all expect that a piece of design should look beautiful, artful. If it is something you can hold in your hands, it should also feel good, you will like to touch it.
But imagine an artful piece of design, which comforts your hands but doesn’t work properly?
Not that great right?
My field is not so called product design, it is the print- and in some places web-design.
But I think Steve’s quote works with that too.
Just think about a logo!
A logo should represent you and your company, you want it to look great or cool or stylish.
Graphic-Designers have different programs to create the ultimate logo for your company.
When does a logo work?
A logo works properly when it does not only represent your company, it works properly when you can use it everywhere.
Some think very small minded when creating a logo. People are so web-centric that they forget e.g. print. You just don’t want to use your logo on your website, facebook or youtube-channel, you also want to use the logo in your text-processing-program for invoices, or you even want to print letterheads, flyers, business cards.
A logo that serves all the different demands has to be created different than just a web-centric one.
And if you think really big: you might also want your logo on your car or use it for the banner ads at the Soccer Championship.
So make sure that your Graphic-Deisgner creates your logo with a so called vector graphic-program like Illustrator. Than you can use the logo everywhere.
Nothing wrong with playing around with the vector logo in an image processing program like photoshop to create a not only working but great looking twin for your website.
